Sinopec Nanjing Engineering Co., Ltd. ("SNEI"), as a merger since 2009 between Sinopec Nanjing Design Institute and the Second Construction Company of Sinopec, is an international engineering company offering integrated solutions for technology, engineering, procurement, construction and project management to customers in China and world-wide.

I. History of the Second Construction Company of Sinopec

The Second Construction Company of Sinopec, founded in 1954, is a national-level, tier-1 construction company under Sinopec that evolved from the former Northeast Construction & Installation Company under the Petroleum Bureau of the Ministry of Fuel Industries. The construction company is among the top 100 biggest construction companies in China.

1954, renamed as "The First Construction & Installation Company of The Ministry of Petroleum Industry".

1959, "The First Engineering Bureau of The Ministry of Petroleum Industry" was founded.

1972, renamed as "The First Petrochemical Construction Company of The Ministry of Fuel and Chemical Industries".

1978, "The Second Engineering Company of The Ministry of Petroleum", based in Nanjing, was founded.

July 1983, China Petroleum and Chemical Corporation was founded, the Company, as part of this Corporation, was renamed as "The Second Construction Company of China Petroleum and Chemical Corporation".

September 1992, renamed as "The Second Construction Company of Sinopec".

October 1998, renamed as "The Second Construction Company of Sinopec Group".

II. History of Sinopec Nanjing Design Institute

Sinopec Nanjing Design Institute evolved from the former Nanjing Branch of The Design Institute of Nitrogen Fertilizer Industry of The Ministry of Chemical Industry (or the Seventh Design Institute of The Ministry of Chemical Industry) founded in 1958. The design institute was one of the first state-level, specialized, large design institutes of the newly founded China back then. Mr. Jiang Shengjie, China's renowned chemical and nuclear energy expert, was the first director and chief engineer of the design institute.

January 1958, it was decided by the then Ministry of Chemical Industry that, on the basis of the Design Department of Yongli Ning (Nanjing) Factory, the Nanjing Branch of The Design Institute of Nitrogen Fertilizer Industry of The Ministry of Chemical Industry was to be founded, which was under both The Design Institute of Nitrogen Fertilizer Industry of The Ministry of Chemical Industry and Yongli Ning (Nanjing) Factory.

August 1958, the Nanjing Branch was renamed as The East China Design and Research Branch Institute of The Design Institute for Chemical Industry of The Ministry of Chemical Industry, which was under both The Design Institute for Chemical Industry of The Ministry of Chemical Industry and Nanjing Chemical Industrial Company.

October 1960, The East China Design and Research Branch Institute of The Design Institute for Chemical Industry of The Ministry of Chemical Industry was renamed as The Design and Research Institute of Nanjing Chemical Industrial Company.

April 1962, it was decided by the Ministry of Chemical Industry that chemical specialists in China were to be reshuffled, and The Design and Research Institute of Nanjing Chemical Industrial Company was designated the national center for sulphuric acid research, and the national center for sulphuric acid and phosphate fertilizer design and technology.

March 1965, officially named The Seventh Design Institute of The Ministry of Chemical Industry, directly under the General Bureau of Capital Construction of The Ministry of Chemical Industry.

November 1971, by Su Ge Ran Hua Fa (71) File No. 292, The Seventh Design Institute of The Ministry of Chemical Industry was renamed as Nanjing Chemical Design Institute, administered by Jiangsu province, under both the Ministry and the Province.

August 1973, it was decided by the Committee of Chinese Communist Party of Jiangsu Province that Nanjing Chemical Design Institute was under Nanjing Chemical Industrial Company, and was renamed as The Design Institute of Nanjing Chemical Industrial Company.

May 1984, The Center for Sulphuric Acid and Phosphates Design and Technology of The Ministry of Chemical Industry was founded, affiliated to Nanjing design institute.

September 2000, according to "The Notice on The Execution Plan for Reform of Engineering, Exploration and Design Institutes Administered by The Central Government" (Guo Ban Fa [2000] File No. 71), Nanjing design institute, as one of the 48 large design institutes to be administered by the central government, became part of Sinopec.

January 2002, Nanjing design institute became a design institute directly under Sinopec, and the operation is overseen by the former Engineering and Construction Management Department, and the design institute was renamed as Sinopec Nanjing Design Institute.
