Recently, ADNOC’s LNG project team in Abu Dhabi launched its first construction crew management standardization drive. Installation Crew 3’s container type building is picked to trial the transformation of construction crew management from an experience-based approach to a standardization-driven, replicable and scalable approach.
The construction crew management standardization drive features “rules on the bulletin board, responsibility assigned to individual, and work culture buy-in”, offering a holistic approach to nurture workplace culture and boost management of tool-box talk (TBT), job responsibility, HSSE and quality checklists， among others. A task force was set up to take care of the planning, design, and arrangement of the construction crew containers. Construction crew-specific bulletin boards are set up to show organization chart, HSSE and quality management rules, among others. The bulletin boards cover safety topics, announcements and knowledge sharing to highlight construction crew management details and achievements.
Rule-wise, the project team defined detailed responsibilities of foremen and leadmen, procedures for TBT, Job Safety Analysis (JSA) preparation and briefing, and established management logs and performance review mechanism to make sure all tasks are conducted according to rules with clearly defined accountability.
HSSE and quality-wise, the project team put responsibilities of construction crew foremen on the bulletin board to enhance the awareness of “the primary responsible person” and foster the mindset of “safety and quality by everyone and for everyone”. A TBT is conducted on a daily basis to highlight work assignment, JSA, lessons learned, reward and punishment topics from safety, quality and culture perspectives.
Such standardization drive underpins the project team’s commitment to achieve efficiency and excellence. Going forward, the project team will review lessons learned from the trial efforts, make continual improvement, and strive to replicate and scale up the construction crew management standardization in order to boost productivity at the construction site as a hallmark of construction excellence in the Emirates market.
