Retaining Wall Closure at Amiral Project’s Package 5A – Tank Farm

On August 7, closure of the 387.35-meter-long retaining wall for Amiral Project’s Package 5A – Tank Farm was achieved following 5.5 months construction, enabling subsequent construction of the graded sand cushion course and the erection of mounded bullet tanks.

The retaining wall measures 10 meters in height, partly 11.5 meters, with a total volume of approximately 9,300 cubic meters of concrete poured. The team tackled challenges including mass concrete pouring and maneuvering amid extra-high formwork by figuring out the optimum concrete mix ratio, employing a pouring technique by layer and section, and conducting temperature monitoring throughout the entire process, minimizing the likelihood of cracks.

To meet both schedule and quality objectives, the project team pooled all required resources, developed an actionable construction plan, scheduled the construction crew on day shift and nigh shift, and precisely aligned the availability of manpower, construction equipment and materials. The construction proceeded following rigorous safety procedures incorporating both engineering and construction safety insights. Quality control focus areas covered erection of formwork and working platform to achieve dimension accuracy, bolt tightening, and proper sealing at the base.
