EWPL Project Team Pull off Energization of PS1’s Transformer

On August 18, SNEIs Electrical and Instrument Branch (SNEI E&I) pulled off the energization of the 4.16kV/480V transformer and the LV switchgear in Section B of the new substation at Pumping Station 1 (PS1) of the East-West Pipeline (EWPL) Project in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, readying the PS1 for commissioning, setting in motion follow-up activities.

The energization milestone is a result of concerted efforts amongst the stakeholders. Thanks to strong support by Client Aramcos project management team and the EWPL project team, the E&I team were able to tackle challenges in Client coordination and technical compliance. Multiple discussions and optimizations were conducted for the energization route and key activities as part of the efforts to address coordination issues upfront.

To achieve flawless energization, the E&I team made meticulous preparations well in advance. In line with Client procedures, robust control was conducted for key activities including preparation of the method statement, equipment calibration and testing, and safety walk-down. Execution of such rigorous and meticulous procedures culminated in the energization of the transformer and LV switchgear meeting all the required specifications.
