For the Saudi Arabia’s EWPL Project Department, 2022 is the year marking full-swing construction. In order to ensure a good start of construction, the Project Department developed a plan leveraging multidisciplinary synergy between engineering, procurement and construction. The engineering team participated in the development of the construction plan, so as to facilitate the preparation of reasonable construction processes and construction procedures; The construction team participated in the review of the design drawings so as to facilitate value engineering; The teamwork between procurement team and engineering team promoted the closure of TQs and design COMMENTs, and helped speed up the manufacturing progress of long-lead equipment; The procurement team participated in the construction management process and timely adjusted the procurement strategy to achieve the objectives.

According to the characteristics of the project, which involves multiple stations over a long distance, the Project Department adopts a rolling approach, taking each pump station as a basic construction unit, and organizing relevant disciplines to perform construction activities for each pump station according to the window period, so as to improve the labor productivity.

At the same time, the Project Department prepared all kinds of documents and materials required for the construction commencement to be approved by the Owner, and went through the procedures of PMT, safety, operation, LPD and other departments, securing external conditions for the construction commencement.

As of now, the excavation of PS1 station substation has been completed, the foundation reinforcement binding has been completed, and the one-time pouring of 400 cubic meters of concrete has been completed recently. 4,100 cubic meters of earth excavation of PS2 substation has been completed, 310 cubic meters of bearing platform and base column has been poured, and 1,500 cubic meters of backfilling has been completed, which is about 80%. Meanwhile, the civil construction of the PS6/7/8 pump stations has been started in parallel, and the foundation excavation, termite control and cushion pouring are ongoing. Dismantling group 1 and group 2 adopted the small-team ad-hoc approach. The software dismantling group, oil discharge and isolation group, dismantling and lifting group, surveying and mapping group, and foundation construction group entered the site one by one to promote the low-cost and efficient implementation of the dismantling operation. As of now, the dismantling and lifting of the hot oil heaters, expansion tanks, existing civil foundations, software and isolation, IA rerouting and other equipment have been completed for 8 pump stations, including PS1/2/5/6/7/8/9/10.

The EWPL Project Department is now taking advantage of good weather conditions, working overtime, organizing the construction activities reasonably, and constantly improving the productivity on multiple work fronts at multiple stations, striving to achieve the planned objectives for the year.
