The 230kV power transmission line serves as the power hub among the 27 units in the entire SADARA complex. It is a critical point on the critical path. Given its professional requirements and unique functionality, it always attracts attention of all parties.
Laying, connecting and testing works for the 230kV cables require a high level of construction skills and mandate highly skilled workers and high level testing equipment. Installation of cables with such super high voltage and super large cross section area is unprecedented for SNEI, both at home and abroad. Successful execution of the project will fill in the blank for SNEI in the installation of super high voltage power transmission facilities in the electrical engineering both at home and abroad, and will pave the way for exploring further opportunities in electrical construction work at home and abroad in the future. In order to deliver a successful project, the project management team has spent tremendous efforts in study and investigation, finetuning the method statement, and strengthening the in-process management. All personnel involved in the work have gone out their way to ensure a success. On August 20, 2013, the cable laying activity was kicked off on time, and by February 28, 2014, all withstand voltage tests for the cables were completed. By March 1, 2014, all relevant quality inspection documents have been compiled and handed over, marking the completion of all works for the 230kV power transmission line, ready for energizing 30 days ahead of schedule.
In order to achieve the goals, a series of special measures were taken by the project management team to ensure safety, quality and progress. Toilets, rest shelter and drinking water supply are provided on elevated platforms on the primary and secondary piperacks to improve working efficiency among the construction workers, which also effectively prevented heat stroke in summer, and ensured safety of the construction workers; Cable termination room is provided at elevated locations to prevent the sand and wind from jeopardizing quality of the cable terminal; prior to laying, the cable tractor, cable layer, movable (fixed) pulley are reasonably arranged, and potential risks along the cable route are strictly identified to ensure quality of the cable laying.
To celebrate the excellent construction organization and progress control achieved for the 230kV power transmission lines, on March 12, 2014, the Owner issued a medal to the E/I team, which says “Celebrating the successful completion of the installation & testing for the 230kV cables by the E/I team”, to express appreciation for the outstanding contribution made by the E/I team, and expected that the E/I team will continue with the momentum to make bigger achievement in the subsequent construction activities.
