It is March, which is the best construction time at the project in Saudi Arabia. At the site of Kayan Amine project undertaken by SNEI, a busy construction scene is shown itself, in which all personnel of various disciplines are involved.
Construction of electrical and instrument discipline is always restricted by erection of steel structures, equipment and process installations. Based on the characteristics of E&I discipline related construction, the amine project department of SNEI electrical and instrument subsidiary took the measures of “identifying, seizing and utilizing every possible opportunity” in construction activities.
“Seizing every possible opportunity” means to utilize all chances available to achieve work goals. “Opportunity” is a kind of working condition and occasion which do not allow you to take anything easy, while “seizing” refers to using your working methods and means to overcome difficulties at work. Because of current restrictions from construction activities of other disciplines, the project department has to “seize every possible opportunity” in its electrical and instrument installations: it immediately organized its personnel to install junction box supports and cable tray brackets upon completion of steel structure erections at site and completed its grounding wire laying during every short stoppage interval of civil works construction. By grasping such opportunities which would have gone by in an instant, the project department has ensured the smooth construction progress by promoting standardized management practices and regulating its construction organization in a dynamic way.
In the conventional construction activity, the work method of “seizing every possible opportunity” seems to be praiseworthy. But it is not enough to do so when we are facing the overall situation of construction internationalization. The weak are always waiting for opportunities and the wise are seeking for and handling opportunities, while the strong are continuously creating opportunities. Our electrical and instrument personnel, have formed a kind of spirit of “identifying opportunities” and “work by creating opportunities” while enriching the contents of “seizing every possible opportunity” at their work.
The project department of amine project organized construction supervisors to review 3D model drawings and identify required locations without installation of process pipelines by referring to shop drawings of pipe discipline. By doing so, they have successfully accomplished the prefabrication and installation of most supports. The construction supervisors, together with supervising personnel from Zhongding Company, determined instrument installation locations and finally successfully installed them by repeatedly checking and verifying instrument installation locations at the steel gratings and their installation ways. Laying of main instrument cables is a key point in the construction activities. But only some of their cable trays were delivered to site, which seriously restricted cable tray installation. So the project department made a prompt decision to fabricate elbows at site and temporarily take spare parts from warehouses of electrical and instrument items. By doing that, they completed nearly one thousand meter long installation of main cable trays at one go, which has won high praises from our client.
