During the Spring Festival, while everybody is going home for a family reunion, over 800 overseas staff of SNEI continued to work on overseas project located in Saudi Arabia. They sacrificed their valuable time for family reunion to the ongoing construction work.
The weather during the Spring Festival is treacherous with alternating stormy and sunny days, which adds significant difficulties to the project construction. In the second half of 2010, SNEI kicked off Saudi Kayan Amine Project and Aramco Hydrogenation Project. The project construction task is extremely tough. To honor the commitment to “spread the name of Sinopec and enhance influence on international market”, and to meet the urgent needs by the owners, SNEI overseas staff offered to stay on their jobs during the Spring Festival.
In Saudi Kayan Amine Project, due to slow construction progress by the civil subcontractor of CTCI, and delayed delivery of materials and equipment, actual progress of the project is 3 months behind schedule. In order to recover the progress delay due to such reasons, minimize idle time, the project management team established a rigid and efficient organization and management system to take the initiative to work overtime during the holiday. A piping and material database gathering system was established, which provides technical basis to the construction of 200,000 inch pipe; in order to ensure quality, the project management team adopted the construction approach of using “masterpieces”. For welding of the first weld, erection of the first equipment, erection of the first scaffold, strict rules will be followed throughout the entire working process before organizing subsequent construction, which will ensure construction quality, and also increase the working efficiency; During the construction work for large-sized equipment, in order to honor the commitment to the Owner, the technical people sacrificed their rest time, and worked closely with the local authority, 6 large-sized equipment were transported over night across the high way, which makes sure the 750t crane is mobilized and demobilized according to the schedule. This demonstrates the hard-working spirit of Sinopec teams, and through these efforts, the project construction progress is under control. During the Spring Festival, 21% of the overall project progress has been achieved, and Owner and the EPC contractor have given positive comments on safety, quality, progress and housekeeping on site.
Aramco Hydrogenation Project is a 2x3 million t/a petrochemical complex, the largest size in the world. At peak time, there are about 2000 construction people. The Spring Festival holiday is a critical stage for construction of site office, camping area and pipe fabrication yard. In line with the program to achieve “earliest completion and best quality”, the project management team proactively adhere to the service concept of “ONE TEAM，ONE GOAL”, and lead the staff to win “five models” with the “five leads” program by the communist party members. Through detailed organization, reasonable dispatching, and overtime work by concerned people, construction work is focused on the installation of wall panels for the 2,600m2 prefabrication production building, and kitchen utensils, refrigeration equipment in the dining room of the camping area, and power supply for cabinets and panels, etc., which provides the basis infrastructure for mobilization of large number of construction personnel after the new year holiday. For the main plant area, since the start of mobilizing people to site from Dec. 21, 2010, the project management team has been organizing the workers in a three-person or four-person group for the civil foundation handover work for the main piperack in Area 041 of the main plant, according to the working method of “when an axis ready, scaffold will be erected for this axis, and foundation measurement will be done for this axis”, so as to save time. Since the start of structural steel erection from Jan. 8, 2011, 350t of main structure steel has been erected within less than one month, with a construction progress of more than 10t per day, such speed is also unbelievably high to Owner and EPC contractor.
During the Spring Festival holiday, to bring care and cheer to the overseas staff, Mr. Zhu Jinbao, deputy party secretary of SNEI led a delegation to Saudi Arabia, where they spent the Spring Festival with overseas staff. He extended the best wishes to all staff working on site during the Spring Festival holiday, visited the dormitories, distributed holiday gifts, and also organized a series of interesting entertainment and sport events including a Spring Festival Greeting session, Jiaozi-making party, watching the CCTV Spring Festival Gala, tug-of-war competition, lantern riddle solving, loop game, etc. All such activities add to a cheerful and warm festival atmosphere for all overseas staff during the Spring Festival holiday.
