Saudi Aramco East-West Pipeline Capacity Increase Project Kicks Off
Recently, the engineering kick-off meeting for the Saudi Aramco East-West Pipeline Capacity Increase Project was successfully held, marking the commencement of the project’s engineering activities and start of the execution phase.
The 1,200km-long Saudi Aramco East-West Pipeline connects the Abqaiq oil field in eastern Saudi Arabia with Yanbu Port on the Red Sea coast in the west. It is Saudi Aramco’s main crude oil pipeline. This capacity increase project entails upgrading critical equipment and processes at six pumping stations along the route. Upon completion, the pipeline’s crude oil throughput capacity will increase from the current 7 million barrels per day to 10 million barrels per day.
The award of this contract builds on SNEI's previous upgrade works for this pipeline, where the project team leveraged its expertise in managing the engineering, procurement and construction activities to complete the works with high quality. It is awarded the “Outstanding Chinese-performed Project” by the Chinese Embassy in Saudi Arabia, opening the door for future project opportunities.
